With these strikes on Iranian facilities, the US and the Zionist state seek to intensify their military interventions in the region for their own imperialist gain, building on decades of imperialist interference and war. As always, these wars have been accompanied by years of propaganda to build consensus for another imperialist adventure, and to dehumanise the people of Iran.
It is important to recognise why this conflict is happening, and who it benefits. Both the US Government and Zionist state ultimately represent and defend the interests of their own capitalists, including the war profiteers who have been boasting of record profits in the last number of years. Much like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the real winners will be the likes of Lockheed Martin and Elbit systems, regardless of the human cost of such wars.
Any escalation will inevitably see Ireland further entangled in the web of imperialist alliances. The use of Shannon Airport and Aldergrove Airports by the US military saw hundreds of thousands of US troops ferried to the Middle East during the disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Already, we have seen tons of munitions transited through Irish airspace to support the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Likewise, we have already seen the British ruling class debate its own involvement in joining US bombings of Iran, after deciding to spend billions on warfare whilst cutting millions in welfare. Such a decision by Britain will have direct consequences for the six counties.
The CYM joins young communists and workers around the world in calling for an end to the escalation from the US, NATO and the Zionist State. The people of Iran are not our enemy; our only enemy are the capitalists who would sacrifice us on the altar of profit.
The CYM demands:
An end to the US’ use of Shannon and Aldergrove airports.
An end to Irish university’s and schools partnering with arms industries.
For an Irish withdrawal from NATO partnerships, and for the demilitarisation of the six counties.
Fight the Capitalists, not their wars! Join the struggle for peace with the CYM!
